Kemuning Forest

Kemuning Forest is one of the last tropical lowland forests in Central Java, home to incredible biodiversity and a community-driven coffee agroforestry tradition that has thrived for years. Managed together by PERUM Perhutani and local villagers, the forest shows how conservation and livelihoods can grow side by side.

Since 2016, the Javan Wildlife Institute (JAWI) has worked closely with the people of Kemuning—leading research, protecting wildlife, and empowering communities to create sustainable forest-based products. More than just a forest, Kemuning is a living proof that humans, nature, and wildlife can thrive in harmony when we care for each other.

About NingAlas

About

This platform is a biodiversity dashboard developed by Javan Wildlife Institute (JAWI) to visualize and explore wildlife data within the Kemuning Forest, Temanggung Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. The forest landscape has been shaped by decades of coffee-based agroforestry, providing important habitat for a wide range of wildlife.

All data presented in this dashboard are based on the biodiversity survey in the Kemuning Forest conducted by the JAWI. The platform is supported by NINGALAS SURVEY APP, a mobile field survey application built for offline wildlife data collection, enabling field observations to be recorded and synchronized directly to the dashboard.
